What is Reverse Osmosis?

What Is Reverse Osmosis and Why Should You Care?

If you’ve ever wondered what’s actually in your tap water and what you can do about it, reverse osmosis might be the answer you’ve been searching for.

Most of us turn on the tap and simply trust that the water is safe.

But between ageing pipes, agricultural runoff, and water treatment byproducts, tap water often carries more than just H2O. That’s where a reverse osmosis (RO) system comes in.

What exactly is reverse osmosis?

Think of it like an incredibly fine strainer (but it’s not quite like that).

Water is pushed under pressure through a semi-permeable membrane, one with pores so tiny they’re invisible to the naked eye, just 0.0001 microns wide. That’s roughly 500,000 times smaller than a human hair, meaning nothing unwanted gets through.

The result is clean, purified water on one side, and a concentrated stream of contaminants flushed away on the other.

An RO system doesn’t just filter out the stuff you can taste or smell , it goes much deeper.

Our quality multi-stage systems remove lead, arsenic, PFAS (“forever chemicals”), chlorine, fluoride, nitrates, bacteria, and viruses. These are the kinds of contaminants that standard pitcher filters simply can’t touch.

Is it right for your home?

The good news is that RO systems are easier to live with than most people expect. They install neatly under your kitchen sink with a dedicated tap for drinking and cooking water, and maintenance is as simple as swapping filters once or twice a year. If you currently spend money on bottled water, an RO system typically pays for itself within the first year, while producing far less plastic waste in the process.

If you want to know, not just hope, that your water is clean, reverse osmosis is the gold standard.
